Public Plays Outdoor Pianos

Philadelphia's University City District, the west Philadelphia area where the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University have their main campuses now has eight outdoor, public pianos. The Heart and Soul project which runs from June 7 to June 17th features these artist decorated pianos in places where people might be inclined to come and play. And why not, the pianos are playfully reconstructed like the one at Drexel Park that was refigured into the front end of a roadster, and the driver/pianist has a keyboard and car dashboard with cassette tape player! We visited some of the sites on Friday evening, June 8th and would have visited them all were it not for time and energy! A wonderful project (THANKS) that I hope leads to more public music and art! (But what happens when it rains?) Sorry- it looks like I attributed this project to the University City Arts League by mistake instead of the University City District http://universitycity.org/shaping-public-spaces I hope on our next visit we see a much higher ratio of civilians to the pervasive bicycle cops out and about!
